Now that you have you purchased your “ ROB-MOD ” adapter for the ION, you will have to make a few
modifications
initially to
achieve the bolt-out-of-back access it was designed for.
The modifications will require the use of hand tools such as:
1. A dental pick or some other equivalent with a point on it.
2. A power drill.
3. A drill bit that is big enough to drill a hole at least the size of the screw hole in
rear frame
or bigger.
4. A dremel with a small cutting disc, or some other tool that can cut plastic such as a utility knife or
hobby
knife.
5. A ring spreader or a flat head screwdriver.
*NOTE: It is recommended that the person using the tools to modify the existing plastic, stock body and metal trigger
frame
be someone who is familiar with the use of the the tools listed above .
It is also recommended that a parent or perhaps a local paintball store gun repair specialist attempt these steps.
If not used properly and safely these tools can cause harm.
I also suggest that all persons use their ORIGINAL instructions as a COMPANION manual to help recognize components /
parts.
Step 1. Separate the upper and lower halves of gun.
Remove screws that hold the body and trigger frame together.
There are 3 of these screws. One is located at the front of gun where barrel screws into gun. The second one is behind
air gauge .
Third screw is at rear of gun .
Step 2. Pull off hose on solenoid head facing the rear of gun.
May be able to pull hose off easily; if not then I suggest using “pick” to slide between hose and hose barb,
hooking hose and pulling off.
Step 3. Remove existing banjo fitting in rear of trigger frame and set aside to be used later.
Step 4. Drill hole in space where rear banjo fitting formerly sat. ( Drill downward )
* Recommend using drill bit slightly bigger than the screw hole in rear frame as point of reference.
The bigger the hole, less likely of hose “kinking / pinching.”
Step 5. Slide hose provided in kit over the hose barb on solenoid head.
* Recommend using hands to slide on; however if troublesome I suggest using small pliers to
“lightly”
slide hose on barb.
DO NOT SQUEEZE HARD OR PLIERS WILL COLLAPSE BARB
Slide other end of hose down through new hole drilled into trigger frame.
Step 6. Remove internals from upper plastic body housing. Use dremel with cutting wheel/disc or hobby knife, or utility
knife to cut open rear end of plastic body. May require some light sanding of internal housing to make reinsertion of
internals
easy when reassembling gun.
Step 7. Use ring expander or flat head screwdriver to remove RING or CLIP from “donut” from rear
of “firing chamber.” This can be done by placing flat head screwdriver in groove where clip
circle is gapped and carefully spread apart.
Step 8. Apply thin layer of lube ( preferably dow 33 ) to exposed o-rings and shaft of firing chamber.
Also apply lube to opening of “ROB-MOD” adapter at inner edge or lip.
Step 9. Slide “ROB-MOD” adapter over the end of firing chamber shaft and slide forward, covering the o-rings
and seating firmly against firing chamber main body.
Step 10. Line up rear of “ROB-MOD” adapter air line inlet hole at 90 degrees straight up.
By doing this we are setting the point at which the hole in bottom of “ROB-MOD” adapter thumb screw hole line
up with trigger frame hole. After doing this tighten down set screws on side of adapter.
*Note: chances are that you will have to loosen and turn adapter on shaft and retighten a few times to find correct place
where thumb screw hole and trigger frame screw align or rather line-up.
